

June 28, 1917 in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
Gene's father, William Orton, died before she was born. She
was raised by her widowed mother, Genevieve Orton. They
moved to Paso Robles in 1925.
Imogene, or Imy, or Gene to most, attended the Paso Robles
School system and graduated from Paso Robles High School in
1935.
She met Fred Woodland Sr in 1937 when he came to Paso
Robles to take a job at Basil Tunnison's Buick Garage. He
rented a room at the Hi-Way Hotel which was on the SE
corner of 13th and Park St . As fate would have it, Gene was
working in the hotel's restaurant. They were married in Feb.
1938 and remained so until Fred's passing in 1989.
They had 2 sons, Fred Jr., (Marie) of La Puente, Calif. and
Richard Woodland, (Claudia) of Paso Robles. Both sons are
graduates of Paso Robles High School.
During WW II and for a period shortly after, both worked at
Camp Roberts. Gene and her husband, Fred Sr., later
operated Norwalk Service Stations in Paso Robles, originally at
10th and Spring St and later at 9th and Spring St, from the late
1940's through 1961.
In 1962, Gene and Fred moved to Lake Tahoe, Nevada where
they both worked and retired from Harrah's Casino at Lake
Tahoe. Gene worked in the accounting business office.
After retirement, Fred & Gene moved to Templeton in 1983.
Fred Sr. passed away in 1989 and Gene eventually relocated
to Paso Robles in 2000.
Gene is survived by her 2 sons, 4 grandchildren, Robert, (Paso
Robles), Jeanette Mayfield, (Paso Robles), Rich Jr., (Concord
NC), and Patrick, (Concord, NC) plus 3 great grandchildren as
well as 3 nieces, Sandy Viborg of Templeton, Pat Reep of El
Monte, Callf., Marylou Stemper of Paso Robles and her
nephew, James Crow of Fayetteville, Ga. plus Marie's 3
children, Robert, Natilie and Jeanine and families of So. Calif ..
A Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 17, 11 am, at the Templeton District Cemetery.
