Javier Muneton Salazar, a beloved son, brother, husband, dad, grandpa, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on September 18, 2026, at the age of 74. Javier was born on May 16, 1952, in Zacatecas, Mexico, to Jesus and Maria. He grew up surrounded by many brothers and sisters, and the bonds he formed with his family remained a lasting and meaningful part of his life. Family was at the heart of who Javier was, and he carried those connections with him wherever life took him. Eventually, Javier made his way to Macdoel, California for work, where he met his wife, Barbara. Together, they built a life rooted in love, commitment, and family, raising their three daughters, Elaine, Elia, and Olivia. As a husband and father, Javier was a steady presence—someone his family could depend on and look to for strength, guidance, and unconditional love.
In 1988, after many years in Macdoel Javier’s work took the family to Lake Nacimiento. There, he met many wonderful people who would become lifelong friends. Javier had a way of making people feel welcome and valued, and the friendships he formed reflected the warmth, loyalty, and generosity he brought into the lives of others. The people he met became more than acquaintances; they became part of the extended circle of people he cared for deeply. For the last 19 years of his career, Javier worked for Monterey County Parks and Recreation. He brought the same unmatched work ethic, dedication, and pride to his work that he brought to every part of his life. He was committed to serving others and took great pride in the work he did and the people he worked alongside. Javier’s work ethic was simply unmatched. He approached life with determination and took pride in providing for and caring for his family. Yet his strength was matched by his kindness. He was always willing to help someone in need, and his generosity never went unnoticed. If you needed someone, you could count on Javier. He gave his time, his effort, and his support without hesitation.
Many will remember Javier in his cowboy hat and pearl snaps— a familiar and comforting sight to those who knew him. But what people will remember most is the person beneath that familiar image: a dependable man with a generous heart, a strong spirit, and a quiet way of showing love through everything he did. Javier will be remembered as the best of us, who was always smiling. He was the glue that held his family together, bringing people close and helping create the bonds that made family feel like home. His love, strength, kindness, and generosity will continue through the family he cherished, the friendships he nurtured, and the many lives he touched.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Maria, and his beloved granddaughters, Abigail and Madison. Javier is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; his daughters: Elaine, Elia, and Olivia; his sons-in-law: Vince and Rufino; his grandchildren: Quinn, Kaitlyn, Sammantha, Eden, Ethan, and Kameron, his devoted cat Red, and his many brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. Though he is deeply missed, Javier’s memory will remain alive in the hearts of all who loved him—in the family he held together, the friendships he made, and the lasting example of love, hard work, kindness, and dependability he leaves behind.
