John was born March 11th, 1934, in the town of Niota, Tennessee; the youngest of six children of Ralph and Beulah Odom. He graduated from McMinn County High School in 1952, having excelled scholastically and having earned a varsity letter in basketball. A few months later, he left for California seeking better job opportunities. He was employed by Rainbo Baking Company and spent 38 years as Salesman, Sales Supervisor, and Sales Manager.
John and Florence were married in 1959, and Johnny was born in 1963. After retiring in 1993, both John and Florence enjoyed travelling and playing golf.
