I have so many fond memories of Christmases and Thanksgivings spent with my Uncle John,  Aunt Bernice, and Eric. Uncle John was so kind and giving. He was always smiling, and had a good story to tell. I was lucky to have him as an uncle.  You're in my thoughts and prayers, Aunt Bernice. Sending love from Marty and Jennifer, as well.

Though I had not seen Great- Uncle John recently, I have many vivid memories of the times we spent together, from my third birthday party at his house in Los Gatos to time spent watching slideshows after dinner in his living room or picking ripe roses, strawberries, and other fruits and vegetables in his garden with him as his beloved dogs trailed behind us. 
Uncle Johnny, as we called him, was one of five children, who grew up in Independence, Missouri on a small farm. He was the son of a German immigrant father and a mother of Irish descent. Some of his best memories revolved around his early years chopping wood with his brother, Ernie and helping around the farm with his other siblings, Dorothy, Michael, and my dear Grandma, Margaret. In fact, that is what he spoke to me about during our last phone conversation before his death. 
Later, he served in the military, got married to his wife, Berenice, and moved west to California. Once here, his heart belonged to the golden state. He traveled to all the state parks and famous tourist sites and loved telling you all the interesting facts about these remarkable spots.
Uncle Johnny was a personal injury attorney, educated at Rockhurst College. He had two children, Debora and Eric.  Eric, already deceased, was surely there to give his dad a loving embrace and to welcome him to a new spiritual realm of existence, along with his other family members already departed. 
From one nature, animal loving human to another, I wish him well on his journey.
