

Thurman was born April 20, 1948, in Sanger, California to Essie and Philander Mullen. He graduated from Parlier High School in 1968. He married his high school sweetheart Irene Madrigal on Oct. 12, 1968.
After working several jobs, he was able to attend California State University Fresno, graduating cum-laude with a degree in corrections. He began working at the El Paso De Robles Boys School in 1975. He worked there for the next 11 years before moving to parole. He worked as a field parole agent until retiring in 2004. He took two months off and began working at Atascadero State Hospital in the Police Section as a background investigator off and on for the next 12 years. He made many lifelong friends in the area and will be greatly missed.
Thurman is survived by his wife of 48 years, Irene, his three children, Michael, Jennifer and Stephen, brothers Ernie and Joe Don and sisters Fay, Nona and Phillis. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Veda Mae and brothers Leon and Howard.
A Funeral service will be held at Kuehl-Nicolay Funeral Home on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow immediately at Paso Robles District Cemetery.
