Bernard "Pop Pop" James Mauck

Bernard James Mauck “Pop Pop,” 68, of Pataskala passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on Friday, October 17, 2025 at his home. He was born on September 27, 1957 in Martins Ferry, OH to the late James and Eleanor (Shaffer) Mauck.

Bernard will be remembered as a kind and generous man who put family first and was quick to help anyone in need. Full of wisdom, he always had just the right words to say when they were needed the most, and knowing life shouldn’t be too serious, he was full of memorable mischief and antics.

As a devoted and loving husband, Bernard was married to his lifelong sweetheart, Sharon, for 48 years, and together they had 2 sons: Bernie (Jennifer) and Richard (Meredith Koehler). They also had 4 grandchildren that he adored: James, Kaitlynn, Theodore, and Rosalie. Bernard was a loving brother to his siblings; Helen “Sis” (David) Bartsch, Donna (Bill) Gilson, Corinne (Bob) Szabo and his sister-in-law, Rose, as well as a fun-loving and devoted uncle to many nieces and nephews. He leaves behind many fond memories of weekend campouts, fishing and NASCAR trips, Bluegrass nights, and grill-master for his family and friends. In addition to his parents, Bernard is also preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond and Kenneth.

Family and friends may call from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at KAUBER-FRALEY FUNERAL HOME, 289 S. Main St., Pataskala, OH 43062. Honoring the family’s wishes, cremation will take place following the visitation. Wake arrangements for family and friends will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 in Bernard’s memory.
