David Lee Thomson

David Lee Thomson, age 82, of Pataskala, Ohio, passed away Thursday, July 30, 2026 at Tuscany Gardens. He was born on September 12, 1943, in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Lawrence “Tommy” David and Mary Elizabeth Brooks Thomson. He graduated from South High School in Columbus in 1961.

David dedicated a significant part of his life to serving his community. He was a former Scoutmaster of two Boy Scout troops: Troop #512 at Karl Road Christian Church and Troop #500 at Southeast Christian Church. He also served as a Unit Commissioner in Franklin County. A devoted member of Southeast Christian Church, he served as both a Deacon and a Board Member. His commitment to service extended to the Four Town Sertoma Club where he served as President in 1980 and the Village of Pataskala, where he served on the Zoning Appeals Board in 1975 was an active member of the Pataskala PTO. In 1976, he was appointed as a Council member for the Village of Pataskala.

David began his career as an orthodontic technician, working for Drs. John and Frederick Aldrich from 1963 to 1969. He then embarked on a long career with Big Bear Stores Warehouse in Columbus, where he started working part-time in the grocery department and then worked up to full time at the warehouse and forklift operator in 1969 until his retirement after 35 years. He was a union member of the United Industrial Workers of North America.

In April 1968, David married Janet Elizabeth Herrel. They were blessed with two daughters, Jennifer Sue (Grant) Lewis and Trudy Rae (Christopher) Capel. He was a loving grandfather to five grandchildren: Kenya Dale, Matthew, and Mali (children of Jennifer and Grant), and Courtney and Samantha (daughters of Trudy and Christopher).

In addition to his parents, David is also preceded in death by his brother, Glen (Glennajean) Thomson and four sisters, Twila Wagner, Elinor Dunn, Marilyn (Roland) Handley, Sue (Art) Christ.

David lived in Columbus until 1971, when he and Janet moved to Pataskala, Ohio, where they made their home for over 50 years. They were both avid Ohio State Football fans and Blue Jackets Hockey. Dave enjoyed woodworking, horseshoes and water skiing.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
