Gwendolyn Sue Knight, of Summit Station, Ohio, went peacefully home to her LORD and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, November 6 at Mother Angeline McCrory Manor in Columbus, Ohio. It is with conflicting emotions that we say goodbye to our loving mom. There is a sense of intense sadness that Mom, who had nurtured and cared for us with simple and sacrificial love, is now gone. Yet there is a sense of extreme joy and celebration as she is freed from the prison of dementia to enjoy the eternal presence of her LORD Jesus Christ, whom she loved deeply. Sue was born in Huntington, West Virginia on December 7, 1941 (Pearl Harbor Day) to Clyde and Cecil Ash Crawford. She married Fellie Knight in 1956, and they shared 60 years together prior to Fellie’s passing. For most of those years Sue never worked outside the home. She devoted her life to meeting the needs of her husband and children. Apart from her faith in Christ, her family was her greatest joy. She was a Proverbs 31 woman in the truest sense. Her passion in life was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was also committed to her church family at Summit Station Free Will Baptist Church. In her later years, Sue entered the workforce and worked as a lunch worker for Licking Heights Schools. She absolutely loved this role and her work friends. Until he passed, Fellie was determined to keep Sue living at home in spite of her worsening condition, but he couldn’t have done it without the help of Sue’s daughter, Kim, who took care of her personal needs. Professional skilled nursing care was eventually necessary, and at the time of her death, Sue lived at Mother Angeline McCrory Manor. The family extends a special thanks to the staff at Mother Angeline McCrory Manor for their tender and loving care of Sue. Sue is survived by her daughter, Debbie Cooper of Jefferson City, Tennessee; son, Billy (Brenda) Knight of Johnstown, Ohio; son-in-law, Leonard Holstein of Johnstown, Ohio; 8 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Grethel Jean Clark and Sheila Varney, and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Fellie Mack Shirden Knight; her infant son, Fellie Junior; her daughter, Kimberly Ann Holstein; her son-in-law, Wes Cooper, her parents, Clyde and Cecil Ash Crawford; and siblings (Tony, Carlos, Rex, Roger, Joan, and Jerry); and brother-in-law, Roy Clark. Visitation is Saturday, November 13 from 10-11 am with funeral service at 11 am officiated by A. J. Brinegar. Both the visitation and funeral service will be held at Fairview Free Will Baptist Church, 15271 Vance Rd., Mt. Vernon, Ohio. Funeral services provided by Kauber-Fraley Funeral Home in Pataskala. Burial will immediately follow at Fairview Cemetery where she will be buried alongside her husband. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or your local church. The family asks visitors to be sensitive to precautionary COVID protocols to help protect those unvaccinated and/or with health issues.
