Thank you for honoring my father. He was my loving father, role model, protector, teacher, adviser, and friend, but, most of all, my Dad. I was honored to deliver the eulogy at his memorial service, excerpts of which are below.

--J.J. Todor

It is hard to put into words the loss I feel because Dad was such a big presence in my life and of my Mom, Laura Todor, his wife of fifty years who he loved so deeply and who loved and cared for him throughout his life. Almost every time we spoke he made sure I wouldn’t go to bed, or, later, hang up the phone for the night without him telling me he loved me and that he wanted me to, as he would so often say, “take care of my son.” He told me every time but I always knew that, deep in my heart, from his lifetime of caring for me, my Mom, and those who knew him as a teacher, coach, and friend.

It is perhaps fitting that Dad should get the last word. When Mom and I were looking through old pictures to prepare for today, Mom found a Christmas card Dad once wrote to me. There were no other cards in the box of pictures but there it was, almost as if Dad was sending me a note. Dad liked to write in Romanian in cards and the words he used struck a chord with me for this day too. He wrote of his pride in me and wrote “La multi ani cu sanatate. Cu drag si dor, I Love You, Dad.” And so to you, Dad, I say “La multi ani” – many years – thank you for your many years of love. “Cu sanatate” – with health – I hope that you now feel the health and strength that the illness sapped from you in your last years and that you once again have the vigor you always had. “Cu drag” – with love – all the love you gave to Mom and me and our family and the love we felt for you. “Si dor” – and longing – we miss you, Mom misses you, I miss you. And, as you said, and as I always have and always will, I Love You, Dad.

He was the cousin who no matter how long it was between conversations it was like we just spoke the day before. He was always the one I looked forward to seeing at our family gatherings. He was the "cool older cousin" who once took me for a ride in his cool corvair when I was about 7 years old. I was the little punky cousin who thought I was the special princess because i got a ride with Johnny!! He is and will forever be in my heart! I love you all very much.

I am so sorry to hear of John's passing , my deepest sympathy to his family. He lived across the street from me on 7th St. in the SW end in Canton. He made a small circle out of a coat hanger and attached it to a small back board and we used to play basketball with a whiffle ball. Had many hours of fun. We lost touch but I do have fond childhood memories of him.
RIP

Prayers & Hugs to his family!! I had Mr. Toder for several classes while attending Watkins Memorial High School. I loved taking his classes because he made our classes beyond enjoyable with humor, great stories, and he genuinely cared about his students. A great educator!
