Leo John Shedlock passed away on July 4, 2018 surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by parents, Steve and Ann; 8 brothers and 2 sisters. He was also preceded in death by wife, Marian; daughter, Rebecca and son, Joseph. Leo was raised on a small farm in the coal town of Lilly located in western Pennsylvania. Leo served in the U.S. Army from 1949 to 1953 and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. Leo then moved to Columbus, Ohio where he lived with his brother Emil and sister-in-law Mary. He met his future wife Marian Easton at a YMCA dance. They were married on February 23rd 1957 and bought a house in Reynoldsburg in 1958. Leo was proud that he finished the inside of his home to save money on the purchase. Leo and Marian raised 3 children and were married for nearly 60 years. Leo joined the Columbus Division of Fire on November 1, 1956 and was assigned to Engine #4 at the time of his retirement. He also worked Maintenance (#34) and Engines 15 and 5. He retired from the Fire department after 25 years of service and continued working as a skilled craftsmen in Home Improvement for many years. He was a hard worker, and spent a lot of time in retirement working “dawn to dusk” at his “sanctuary”, the Kaelbling Farm near Johnstown, Ohio. He loved to cook and garden. Leo was endeared to his family for his “quips” – “No one ever died of hard work” and “Do it well or don’t do it at all”. Leo was a devout Roman Catholic, a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 5253. He is survived by his daughter, Susan (Jason) Plank; 5 grandchildren, Joel (Shaina) Shedlock, Samantha Shedlock, Sarah Smith, Jay (Kari) Plank, Alex Plank (Brittany Ludwig) and 9 great grandchildren. Memorial visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. on Thursday, July 12, 2018 with Memorial Mass following at 11:00 a.m. at Seton Parish, 600 N. Hill Rd, Pickerington, OH 43147 with Father Jim Klima officiating.
