I was shocked and saddened to hear of Mat’s passing. I worked with Mat for years in Consultant Services and prior to him coming to the Department. He was one of the most all around “good guys” I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.

My condolences to his family, and many friends and colleagues. He will truly be missed.

I am shocked and saddened by this news. I had the Pleasure of working with Mat at ODOT. And I do mean "Pleasure" with a capital P - he was a remarkably happy man. I'll treasure my memories of Mat. My prayers and condolences to his family and his many, many friends.

I've had the opportunity to work with Mat on an ODOT IT project for the last 18 months and in that time I really got to know him. I have immense respect for him in how he interacts with others and how he made everyone around him feel valued for their contributions, how appreciative and proud he was of his Consultant Services team members, and how serious he took his responsibilities as a steward for the citizens of Ohio.

Mat always made time for this newbie to explain the intricacies of the business processes in a way that I'd understand them, for that I'm eternally greatfull.

A consummate professional and a cordial person you just liked being around. He will be missed dearly!

My condolence to the Family and Friends.

Mat and I worked together for over 20 years. Starting at M-E Companies where we worked together on the project management jobs in NE Ohio, then at ODOT and when I moved to ACEC Ohio we again worked closely together on many issues. He was a professional always and worked hard at each job he took on. What was special about Mat is his love for his family and he always remembered to ask about mine. Sherri, Jake and Abby you are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time, I wish you strength and peace.
He will be missed.

Mat will be missed by so many people. I knew Mat through work and I have always appreciated how he was such a fantastic teacher. He helped me understand his side of ODOT and how to use it to create success for work in all areas. He was a pleasure to work with and his calm manner made me feel like I never messed up, even though I did so often. He will be greatly missed. To Mat's family, I am so sorry for your loss.

I played Varsity high school basketball with Mat, as he was a year behind me as a Junior.
I can unequivocally say that Mat was the hardest working, most kind, loving fellow student-athletes I had ever had the privilege of playing ball with in my lifetime!
Mat was always quite and laid back, and being around him, simply made you a better person!! Thank you Mat.....
R.I.P. my brother, see you on the other side of Heaven’s Gate! 🙏🏻🏀

I was shocked and very saddened when I learned of Mat's passing. We met more than 25 years ago before either of us worked at ODOT.

For the past 15 years, Mat and I were colleagues in Consultant Services. He became our Administrator 2 years ago and united the office in a wonderful way. Every morning he made the rounds to say hello to each of us...always with a smile. He listened to our ideas, asked our opinions and made us feel like a valued part of the team. Mat was an outstanding leader that I also considered a friend. I will miss him tremendously.

To Sherri, Jake and Abby...Karen and I send our sincere sympathy.
