William B. Dixon, age 77, passed away on February 15, following a stroke suffered while visiting his sister, Janell, in Florida on September 18, 2019. Bill was born on April 5, 1942, in Columbus, Ohio, to Russell Hubert and Jane Ward Dixon who predecease him.
Bill graduated from Watkins Memorial High School, Class of 1960. He received his undergraduate degree from Denison University. He was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity and also played football. Bill then went on to Franklin University and received his Juris Doctorate degree in 1968. He worked for the PUCO as Director of Transportation and then practiced law at Butler, Cincione and Dicuccio. Bill also worked for Buckeye Union Insurance Company as a trial attorney.
Bill’s passion and hobby were guns, and he had the opportunity to purchase the Powder Room Gun Range with a partner. He was a proud member of the NRA. His other passions were dogs, hunting, Ohio State Football and scuba diving. Bill was a beloved, longtime member and usher at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Bexley, Ohio.
Bill is survived by his ex-wife and mother of his children, Ann Sutphen Lynd; his children, William B. (Sandy) Dixon III, and Stephanie (Andrew) Gilzow; his grandchildren, Abigale, Ava and Helena; his sisters, Elizabeth (Rod) McIntosh and Janell (Bill) Peters), nephew, Tony (Jenni) McIntosh and niece, Ali (Eric) Deck.
Bill volunteered his time to Meals on Wheels, so the family asks that memorials be given to Meals on Wheels in his memory. The family would also like to thank Mount Carmel East Hospital, South Bay Hospital of Sun City Center, Florida, and Encompass Rehabilitation Center in Sarasota, Florida, for the excellent care he received.
Due to the current health restrictions a public celebration of life will be held later this summer when conditions allow.
