Edward Michael May was born in Klamath Falls Oregon on August 1, 1942 to Michael Boyd May and Verna Veronica (Cody) May. He was a Roman Catholic and attended Sacred Heart Academy and graduated from Klamath Union High School. While growing up in Klamath Falls, Ed loved to hunt, fish and race which became lifelong hobbies. After graduation Ed attended Oregon Tech. Ed's love for his country and honor led him to join the United States Air Force where he proudly served four years. His last duty station brought him to Mountain Home, Idaho. At this time Ed knew he wanted to return and make Idaho his home.
He then returned to Klamath Falls and went to work for the Southern Pacific Railroad, first as a crew dispatcher and then as an engineer. On June 29, 1970 Ed married Joan Batchelder in Klamath Falls. They had one son together, Eric David May. The family was transferred by the railroad to Springfield Oregon, then to Ogden Utah. After 38 wonderful years, Ed retired from the railroad. Ed was always passionate about racing and purchased his Orange 1955 Chevy which became his dragster.
Ed moved to Ontario Oregon where he later met the love of his life (next to his race car), Phyllis Sanderson, on match.com. Ed married his best friend and racing buddy on March 17, 2011. Ed and Phyllis then moved to Payette Idaho and have spent the last seven years racing at Firebird Raceway and enjoying family, friends and their racing buddies. Ed and Phyllis were the sweethearts of Firebird Raceway and everyone loved and adored them.
Ed is survived by his wife Phyllis; his son Eric, daughter-in-law Elise, grandsons Jordan and Jonathan; sister Jean Emery; sister Mary Colette Heazlett and nephew Jimmy Heazlett.
