

his wife Juanita and son Johnny. He is survived by two daughters, Diana Tracy and Gail Price, eight grandchildren,
16 great grandchildren, two brothers Frank and Robert and a sister Emma Jones.
Born in Byromsville Georgia to William and Emma Byrom, he lived there for six years, then the family moved
to New York City where he grew up. John joined the army at age 18 and served in Burma during World War II.
After his discharge from the service, he attended Wittenberg College and studied Health Physics. He met his wife
Juanita while working at Oak Ridge Hospital, Tennessee, as a radiologist, then contracted with the US DOE at INEL
at Idaho Falls as a Health Safety Engineer. At INEL he authored the health and safety procedures for a budding
nuclear industry. He was institutional in starting the Westmark credit union for INEL employees. John was also
an advocate and teacher for hunter safety programs, and served many years as president of the Idaho Falls gun club.
John was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish, taking friends, and family to his favorite spots. He
collected stamps and coins, and was a rock hound.
John will be especially remembered for being a generous and caring person. He was kind and good to everyone he knew.
No one could ask for a better father or friend. We will miss him greatly. Rest well Dad. Happy hunting and fishing up there!
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 13, 2017 at Deer Flat Free Methodist Church 17703 Beet
Rd. Caldwell, Idaho 83607.
