

Born Jan. 24, 1933 in Colfax, IA, he graduated from Newton High School in 1952. He went into the Army from 1952 to 1953, this is where he met a friend, Leland Aughey (of Huntington, OR) who introduced him to his bride, Norma Faye Cooper; they were married Oct. 15, 1955 in Huntington, OR and lived there together for 59 years. He retired from Ash Grove Cement in 1998. Leonard served on the School Board, Lion’s Club, City Council and the Volunteer Fire Dept. in Huntington. He was always willing to lift a helping hand to those who needed it.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Norma Faye Barton; his sister and husband, JoAnn and Phil Oswald of Newton, IA and sister, Betty Valentine of Newton, IA; his sons and their wives, Leonard Michael and Gayle Barton of Vale, OR and Steven Lee and LeAnn Barton of Molino, OR; his daughter and husband, Machelle Marie and Bradley Craig of Billings, MT; grandchildren, Kevin, Krista, Michael, Lacey, Lenny, and Matthew Barton, Tonya Barton, Riley McCauley and Bailley Craig; his great grandson, Mason Holten; and many nephews and nieces.
Leonard was preceded in death by his father, Winnie William Barton; and his mother and step father, Hannah Marie and Glenn A. Duffy.
A Celebration of his life will be held at 1 PM (Pacific Time), Saturday, Nov. 29th at the V.F.W. Hall in Huntington, OR. Relatives and friends are welcome. The family has requested no flowers.
