Myrtle Margaret Hazen, age 93, of Payette passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2016. A viewing will be held from 4 – 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 26th at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. A Celebration of Life will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 27th at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. Interment will follow at Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell. Myrtle was born Oct. 13, 1922 in Giltner, Nebraska to Skiler and Mildred Carter. She moved with her family to Idaho where she married Alvin Hazen in Oct. 1940. They homesteaded in Notus until they moved to California with their three children; while in California they had two more children. She worked for the U.S. Postal Service for many years before they moved back to Idaho in 1978 where they owned a small tavern in Payette. In 1983 her husband, Alvin, passed away.
She loved to dance and travel to visit family. In 1992 she moved in with her youngest daughter and her family where she lived the rest of her life.
Myrtle is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alvin “Fish” Hazen; a daughter and son-in-law, Thelma and Jess King; a son, Alvin “Bud” Hazen; and many brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her brother Joe (Sharon) Carter; sons, Edward (Shirley) Hazen and Cleo (Pauline) Hazen; daughter, Margaret Haggard (Bernie); daughter-in-law, Illena Hazen; 17 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren.
