Ann Harrison Watts, age 88, of Sharpsburg, GA entered the gates of heaven on December 19, 2025. She was born on June 14, 1937, in Birmingham, AL to the late W. George Harrison and Martha Black Harrison.
Ann accepted the Lord as her Savior at an early age, becoming a member of Central Park Baptist Church of Birmingham and never doubted her eternal security. She graduated from Howard College, now Samford University, in 1958. After teaching school for two years, she opted to serve as a full-time mom to her children. She taught piano for many years in Birmingham while also serving her Lord by singing soprano in the church choir. In the late 70’s she felt and accepted the call to become an accompanist at Green Acres Baptist Church in Birmingham.
Following the family’s move to Georgia in 1984 she soon continued her call in church music by playing for several churches in Douglas, Fulton, and Coweta Counties. While church music was her calling, church missions were her passion. Ann became active in the local and the statewide Georgia Women’s Missionary Union (WMU) a woman’s auxiliary to the Southern Baptist Convention. After serving in local and state offices she was humbled to be elected to serve as President of the Georgia WMU from 2001-2005. She went on several mission trips to Moldova where she was involved with many churches in that country. Following her tenure as President she continued to be active in missions and started many groups to sew teddy bears for authorities to give to children who had been removed from tragic or violent situations. Seeing her local community as a Christian mission field, she continued to serve in her local church as a pianist and WMU leader as well as on the local Baptist associational level. She had also begun a ‘mug rug’ ministry where she and others would crochet coasters to hand to people that she met in the community so she could tell them about Christ and had continued this until her hands would no longer allow her to crochet.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents; and her beloved husband of over 50 years, Gerald W Watts.
Ann is survived by her daughter, Suzy Watts; son, Dr. William G.(Billy) Watts, (Laura); grandchildren, Stephen Gerald White (Julie); Kimberly White (Brian), and Bishop W. Watts; along with her great-grandchildren, Lucas “the smartest child she may have ever known” and Maddie. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Sandra Lane (Ronnie); her nephew, Tommy Lane (Tracy); and two great nieces, Tabitha Madden (Josh) and Trinity McCord (Shane).
A Visitation will be at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home in Peachtree City, GA on December 27, 2025, from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm. The Funeral Service will be in the Chapel at 1:00 pm with Rev. Wayne Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow at Westminster Memorial Gardens in Peachtree City, GA.
