Avis was a native of Claxton, GA and was born to be a nurse. She pursued her calling, graduating from Candler School of Nursing at Armstrong State College in Savannah, GA. Avis working in hospitals as an OBGYN nurse and later in Public Health, retiring in 2007 after 44 years. She continued practicing her art looking after her husband and her neighbors until her last days.
Avis was known for her sense of humor, strong faith, and a huge cup of grace. Early on she could be found playing flag football with her grandson, Austin, chasing the girls around outside in the rain, or planting flowers at her house or at a neighbor’s. She dearly loved her family and was proud of her Deloach heritage.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Clyde Loper; her son, Brian Loper and daughter-in-law, Susan; her daughter, Marcie Cole and son-in-law, Keith; five grandchildren whom she adored, Kristen, Shanna, Austin, Lindsay, and Chris; along with five great-grandchildren.
The family will have a Celebration of Life Memorial Service on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 1:00pm at Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Newnan, GA.
