Mr. Beotis Wright, Sr., a retired Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force, passed away peacefully in his home on August 10, 2018, of complications from cancer. In addition to the Air Force, Mr. Wright was also a retiree of Lockheed Martin Corporation and the Federal Aviation Administration.
Mr. Wright is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ching-Li (Toni) (nee Wu); daughters, Nicole, Karen, and Lavonne; sons, Beotis, Jr. and Michael; sisters, Lula (Katie), Barbara Jean; brothers, Ananias ("Bud") and Gary; and multiple grandchildren. He is predeceased by his mother, Vinia Wright (nee Jones), father, Ananias Wright, Sr.; daughter, Patricia; sister, Dorothy; and brothers, James, Walter, and Larry.
Mr. Wright was born on May 25, 1937, in Cincinnati, Ohio. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Air Force to serve his country and seek adventure. During his 24-year military career, he served valiantly in multiple theatres all over the world, including during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Air Force at the age of 40, and embarked on two additional careers that he would eventually retire from. He served as a flight engineer for the Lockheed Martin Corporation from 1977 to 1998. He then served as an aviation security inspector for the Federal Aviation Administration from 1998 to 2011. He was able to accomplish these remarkable professional feats with a high school diploma, some college education, and an unyielding drive for excellence.
Mr. Wright married Ching-Li (Toni) Wu in 1973, after meeting her in her native Taiwan, during his tenure in the Air Force. Upon retiring from the Air Force in 1977, they, along with daughter Nicole (born in 1974), moved to Saudi Arabia in furtherance of his new career with Lockheed Martin. After several years in Saudi Arabia, they moved to Taiwan, and then to Metro Atlanta, in 1988. In 1998 Mr. Wright retired from the Lockheed Martin Corporation, and took a new position with the Federal Aviation Administration, where he worked until his permanent retirement in 2011.
In retirement, Mr. Wright spent most of his days assisting with the care of his twin grandsons, Carlo and Gianni (born in 2012), corresponding with family and longtime friends, watching old western movies, keeping up with political news and current events, going to the cinema with family, and watching boxing matches and other sports on television. He even took up guitar lessons too. He was known as a highly articulate, patient, and temperate man. He had a wealth of worldly experiences and exciting stories to accompany his quietly confident and extraordinarily caring demeanor. He was kind, conversational, and eager to share his wisdom with all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 19, 2018 from 9:00-10:00 a.m. with a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home and Crematory, 135 Senoia Road, Peachtree City, GA 30269.
