Berta Charlotte Roberts, born August 11, 1927, was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and woman of faith whose life was a blessing to all who knew her.
We had her for 99 years. How blessed I am to have called her my mother. She gave. me life, named me, cared for me, and loved me throughout her life. Her love, guidance, and presence shaped the person I am today.
When I look back over my life, I can see how God placed wonderful women of excellence around me. My mother and her sisters—Aunt Johnnie, Aunt Ruby, and Aunt Toppy—were Proverbs 31 women who became mentors and examples of strength, love, and faith. I love these ladies and will always carry their loving memories with me.
They were there with us through life’s celebrations and “homegoing’s,” sharing in both our joys and our sorrows. I spent many precious moments with them, as well as with my grandmother, their mother, whom we lovingly called “Mimi.”
My daddy’s mother, affectionately known as “My Bobbie” Roberts, was also a cherished part of our family and my upbringing.
Faith and family were woven deeply into my mother’s life. It was no surprise to see our pastor, Dr. Ryberg, sitting at our Sunday dinner table. Those gatherings reflected the love, fellowship, and faith that were so important to our family.
My childhood church was Capitol View Baptist Church, where we grew in Christ. My mother’s life was deeply rooted in faith, family, and the community of people God placed around her.
Thank you for the many wonderful lives that helped us, kept us grounded, and nurtured us where the Lord planted us. Their love and guidance became part of the foundation of our family.
Mother especially loved her grandchildren, Kristen and Derek, and her great-grandchildren (seven in all). They always brought a smile to her face. The love she shared with them created precious memories that will remain in our hearts.
Until we see her again, we find peace, love, and joy in the laughter and in the many shared times together. And when we see the children’s smiles, we will be reminded of her and the beautiful legacy of love that she left behind.
Berta Charlotte Roberts leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, family, and cherished memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love her. And her memories and legacy will also continue to live on through the generations she loved so dearly.
Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and her love will remain with us always.
“Her children arise up and call her blessed.” — Proverbs 31:28
She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Newton Franklin Roberts, at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, GA. Per Berta's wishes, there will not be any services open to the public.
