A Celebration of Live service will be held to celebrate the lives of Jim and Jean Wheeler on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at 1:00pm in the chapel of Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home & Crematory, Peachtree City, GA. A visitation will be held from 12:30pm-1:00pm, with light refreshments, in the lobby. There will also be a catered reception for family and friends, after the service.
Jean Wheeler (June 20, 1932 - October 21, 2020)
Beverly “Jean” (Browning) Wheeler, 88, of East Point, GA passed away October 21, 2020. She was born in College Park, GA on June 20, 1932 to Wallace David Browning and Mary Katherine Mason.
Jean graduated from College Park High School, Class of ’49. After high school, she was employed by Delta Airlines, and later left for Honolulu, HI to marry James "Jim" Carlton Wheeler on April 18, 1953, who was stationed at Pearl Harbor Naval Base from 1950-1954. They were married for 67 years. After returning from Hawaii with a new baby, Jean began a career at Adair Realty. After their 3rd child, Jean began a newspaper route with her 2nd son. She later became a Sub-Mail Carrier for the College Park Post Office. Her final occupation was working as a Custodian for First Baptist Church of Fairburn. Jean was extremely kind and had a very nurturing Spirit. She loved taking care of others, so after retirement, she continued to volunteer at the church to keep it nice and clean for all who worshipped there. Jean had a "green thumb" and loved to manicure their property with beautiful flowerbeds of azaleas, monkey grass, and various other plants. She also loved the beach and ocean and enjoyed traveling there every year to vacation with her family. Jean is preceded in death by her loving husband, James “Jim” Carlton Wheeler; and her parents. Jean is survived by her sons, James Daniel Wheeler (Debra) and Carlton Alan Wheeler; daughter, Lori Lynn Wheeler (Scott Bertrand); grandchildren, Anna Danielle Smith (Rhett) and Abigail Dane Wheeler; great grandson, Declan Elliott Smith; and her brothers, Wallace David Browning, Jr. (Dyan) and Robert Rayford Browning.
Jim Wheeler (September 13, 1931 - March 22, 2020)
James “Jim” Carlton Wheeler, 88, of East Point, GA passed away March 22, 2020. He was born in East Point, GA on September 13, 1931 to the late Tommie Lee Wheeler and Janie Wilson Hammett. Jim graduated from College Park High School, Class of ’49. He was married to Jean (Browning) Wheeler on April 18, 1953. They were married for 67 years. He served in the US Navy and was stationed at Pearl Harbor in Honolulu, HI from 1950-1954. Known as “Georgia Jim”, he was 2nd Baseman for the naval base’s baseball team. After military service, Jim became a printer for Southeastern Underwriters and later worked as an insurance agent for BMA Insurance Co. Even after retirement, he worked various jobs to stay busy. He was an avid golfer and loved to play in his spare time. His loving wife, Beverly “Jean” (Browning) Wheeler, survived him by seven months. Survivors include his sons, James Daniel Wheeler (Debra) and Carlton Alan Wheeler; daughter, Lori Lynn Wheeler (Scott Bertrand); grandchildren, Anna Danielle Smith (Rhett) and Abigail Dane Wheeler; and his twin sister, Carolyn Wheeler Redding.
