Eugene Rolla Barney

Mr. Eugene R. Barney, age 81, died Thursday, March 5, 2020. He was born in Muskegon, MI on June 6, 1938 to the late Rolla and Anna Barney.

He married the love of his life, Janet Hamstra, on June 28, 1958. He served three years in the United States Army/Michigan National Guard. He was employed as a machinist at Dresser and Lift Tech for more than 30 years, until he retired at the age of 63. Throughout the years Gene and Janet enjoyed dancing and gambling at the casino's. Gene also enjoyed golfing, hunting, and was an avid bowler.

Gene is preceded in death by his lovely wife, Janet; his parents, Rolla and Anna; and his older brother, Allen Barney.

Gene is survived by his son, Randy Barney of Sharpsburg, GA; his three daughters, Brenda (Larry) Wood of Muskegon, MI, Jeanne (Ken) Parker of Muskegon, MI, and Debra (Tobias) Fekken of Muskegon, MI; 11 grandchildren, Larry, Christina, Tara, Krystal, Kenny, Kimberly, Derrick, Randi-Lynn, Dakoda, Kaitlyn, and Jaycob; many great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ish (Amy) Barney of Kentucky and John (Shirley) Barney of Texas; and his sister, Mercy (Mike) Ward of Oklahoma.

Celebration of Life services will be held 4:00pm-7:00pm on Friday, March 13, 2020 at the Egglecraft Club House, 2129 Arrowhead Drive, Muskegon, MI 49442.

I have known your family for 65 years since I met Allen at the Curvecrest Skating Rink. I grew to
love his parents dearly.
I am so sorry for your loss. Wanted to come to his memorial celebration however health reasons did not allow it.

Gene. You will never be forgotten. We had 9 wonderful years together. Mount Rushmore. Alaska cruiese. Grand ole Opra and many other wonderful things we shared. You shared things with me about your family and so much more. I will always cherish the memories we made together. If I go to cherry hut again I will have a cherry burger just for you. It was so awesome the things we did together and I will hold them close to my heart for ever. R.I.P. Gene. I will always love you.
