

Harry Nicks Flowers, 98, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at his home in Peachtree City, Georgia. He was the son of Grover Curl Flowers and Maggie E. Hickman Flowers of Hickman County, Tennessee and grew up in Centerville, Tennessee. He was married to Opal Johnson Flowers of Peachtree City for more than 60 wonderful years together.
Harry had a productive and interesting life. He left home in the mid 1930's to work for the Civilian Conversation Corps. In 1938, he joined the army and served for 20 years attaining the rank of Master Sergeant before retiring in 1958. He then began work for the Federal Reserve Bank in Atlanta and retired after 20 years in 1979. While working for the Bank, Harry began another career in the property purchasing, sales, rental and lending business in the south Atlanta metro area, which continued until his death. Harry was also a founding member of Sandtown Baptist Church and a 33rd degree mason, Atlanta Peachtree Lodge.
Harry and Opal were longtime residents of southwest Atlanta until 1988 when Opal and he moved to Peachtree City.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers, Fred Moore Flowers, Luther McClanahan Flowers and Fate Turner Flowers; sisters, Mary Tom Flowers and Johnnie Sue Flowers; nephew, Paul Lee Flowers and Niece, Annie Sue Ruff; grand-nephews, Jimmy Ray Ruff and Wesley Grant Ruff, II.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Amy Flowers of Centerville, Tennessee; his sisters, Annie Ruth Brown, of Ocala, Florida and Mary Louise Goins of Dickson, Tennessee; nephews, Jimmy Ray Flowers of Tullahoma, Tennessee and Larry Ford Barnes of Hiawassee, Georgia; niece, Helen Jeanette Toth of Southgate, Michigan; grand-nephews, Steven Wayne Flowers of Brown City, Michigan and Darrell Gene Flowers of Lakeland, Florida; grand-nieces, Pauletta Marice Feider and Gail Annette Anderson of Lakeland, Florida, Athena Lei Johnson of Dearborn, Michigan and Ginger Lynn DeBerry of Monroe, Michigan; and great-grand-niece, Charity Marie Bukowski of Blythewood, South Carolina.
Visitation will take place from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home Chapel followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel with Rev. Darwin Caldwell officiating. Interment will be at Westview Cemetery, Atlanta, Georgia at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Georgia Baptist Children's Homes and Family Ministries, Inc., Palmetto, Georgia and The Georgia Masonic Home Endowment Fund, Macon, Georgia.
