Hi Jai Kim, age 82, of Peachtree City, Georgia died peacefully on Monday, July 22, 2019. Hi Jai Kim, also known as “Como” since 1997, was born in November of 1936 and raised in Seoul, South Korea. She graduated from Hong-ik University majoring in fine arts. In 1968, she went to the U.S. for study and graduated from Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Since then she held numerous solo exhibitions and participated group and invitational exhibitions in Seoul, Philadelphia, and Atlanta. Hi Jai Kim also studied and worked in Paris from 1977 to 1978 and held several exhibitions in Paris. Hi Jai Kim was a member of Korean Women’s National Basketball Team and has participated in international competitions representing South Korea in early 1960s.
Since she moved to Peachtree City, Georgia from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in late 1990s she was called as “Como” (meaning “Aunt” in Korean) by many children of her nephews and nieces so she used “Como” as her name for her later art works.
Hi Jai Kim has never been married and had lived with her younger sister, Maria Pil Jai Kim during her whole life in the U.S. She is survived by her sister, Maria Pil Jai Kim; youngest sister, Sarah Kim Connors; younger brothers, Duk Jai Kim and Jung Jai Kim; nephews, Dong Wook Kim and Anthony Kyung Wook Kim; nieces, Hyun Jung Kim Whang and Heejin Kim Chung in U.S. and South Korea. Hi Jai Kim will always be remembered as a very tall, wonderful, and witty “Como”; best dresser of all times in Kim family; and most of all, as an inspirational role model by all of her family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2019 at 11:00am in the chapel at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home & Crematory with Deacon Mark Sholander officiating.
