Iris Marie Johnston, 87, passed away on June 18th at her home in Peachtree City, GA. She was born on September, 12, 1937 in Corpus Christi, TX. While attending the University of Texas, she met her husband Richard H. Johnston, a Navy pilot. She then became a TWA flight attendant, and travelled the world. She and Richard would eventually settle down in College Park, GA, and later in Fayetteville, GA, where they raised their three sons, Richard, Wade, and Keith.
It was impossible to meet Iris without recognizing her infectious humor. Someone who never took anything too seriously, she could make the bleakest of situations into an opportunity for joy and laughter. She shared this joy with her family, whom she loved spending time with whenever she could. Her home was not complete without the constant sounds of a tennis match. She would spend many sleepless nights, fueled only by coffee and her love for tennis, watching the current tournament, no matter the time. Also an avid reader, she had a passion for storytelling, and has left, along with many memories, countless stories that will never be forgotten.
Iris is preceded in death by her parents, James and Lida Norwood; and her beloved husband, Richard H. Johnston.
Iris is survived by her three sons, Richard Johnston Jr., Wade Johnston (Stephanie), Keith Johnston (Mitzi); her grandchildren, Michael, Eric (Bree), Steven (Francesca), Sophie, Lance; and her great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Adelaide, Tucker, Madeline, and Rook.
A visitation for Iris will be held in the Rose Room on Monday, June 23, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home & Crematory, 135 Senoia Road, Peachtree City, GA 30269. A graveside service will be on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 5755 Mallory Road, College Park, GA 30349.
