

Jack L. Smith of Senoia, GA went home to be with the Lord on June 26, 2025, at the age of 90. He was born in the small town of Union, SC and later moved to Atlanta, GA to live with his grandfather while his father served in World War II. He went to Sylvan Hills High School then attended Georgia State University. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, where he was awarded the medal of Good Conduct. He was very proud of his military service and loved his country. Later he made his career at Western Union where he met the love of his life, his lovely wife, Joan. They married in Atlanta in 1961 and had two beautiful daughters. They made their home in West Hollywood, FL in 1967 and lived there for 24 years. After retirement they moved back to Georgia in 1991 and settled in Senoia.
Jack was a steam engine and model railroad enthusiast. He was a member of many train organizations and had an impressive train layout that he designed and built himself based on the town of his birth and childhood. He was also a huge history buff and was a member of the Senoia Historical Society. Jack loved the Lord and put Christ first in everything he did. He enjoyed singing in the church choir of the many churches he attended over his lifetime and served many years as the Training Union Director. He was both an Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Falcons fan and never missed a Clemson Tigers game.
Jack will be remembered for his love of the Lord, his big smile, kindness, and his wonderful sense of humor. He always took care of and loved his family and made sure they never did without. His family, especially his grandsons, were the apples of his eyes, and he always beamed whenever he spoke of them. Jack will be missed and loved forever by his family, friends, and everyone who ever had the pleasure of having met him.
Jack is survived by his daughter, Dana; her husband, James; and their sons, Gunnar and Zak. His daughter, Robyn; her husband, Gary; and their son, Michael. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan; his parents, John and Grace; and his sister, Mary.
Jack will be laid to rest at Georgia National Cemetery, 1080 Scott Hudgens Dr, Canton, GA 30114. A Graveside Service with Military Honors at 11:00 AM, Monday, July 14, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, Jack requested that donations be made to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation because his grandson, Zak, suffers with Crohn’s Disease.
