James E. Stroup Jr. age 69, passed away in the early morning of July 12, 2016 at Emory Hospital following a 15 month battle with lymphoma. He fought with a courage and a fearless determination that amazed us all. He never complained or exhibited self-pity and fought with his adopted mantra "If I can take it, I can make it". He was born in Hartford City, Indiana on November 20, 1946 to Louise Roach Stroup and James E. Stroup Sr. He graduated from Hartford City High School in 1964 and enlisted in the United States Army where he served for 6 years in Alaska and Oklahoma. He then graduated from Bowling Green State University with a degree in Finance and entered the world of banking - which began a 43 year career working for banks in the Midwest and Southeast US. He was a well-respected leader, employee and friend to his colleagues and was known to all for his impeccable work ethic and integrity.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Lorabeth Fisher Stroup, brothers Paul E. and Michael E. Stroup, both of Indiana, and sons Todd Stroup, wife Lisa, of Roswell GA and Ryan Stroup, wife Melissa, of New Orleans, LA. He was a devoted grandfather to Emilie, Ethan, Rebecca, Adalyn and Chloe who brought him so much pride and joy. He loved race walking, gardening, fishing (and occasionally even catching some) and his perpetual quest to eliminate the pesky squirrels from his yard. He was a great man with a kind heart - and he will be terribly missed.
