Janis L. Wilson, 91, of Peachtree City, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home on March 10, 2026, surrounded by her loving husband and children. Born July 11, 1934, in Newport, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Wilbert and Laura (Carter) Rolf. On January 7, 1955, she married M. Robert “Bob” Wilson, and together they shared 71 years of marriage.
Before her marriage, Janis worked as a clerk at LaSalle’s Department Store and later at New Departure, where she met her future husband. In their early years of marriage, Janis and Bob enjoyed bowling together on a couple’s bowling league. After the birth of their twin daughters, Karen and Sherin, they joined a local twins club, connecting with other families and sharing the joys and challenges of raising twins.
While raising their family, Janis volunteered as a teacher’s aide and playground aide at Kurtz Elementary School. After her youngest child, Mike, graduated, she worked at Arbor Drugs. From 1982 to 1986, she operated a licensed in-home daycare, The Tot-Spot, with her daughter, Dianna.
Janis loved spending time with family and friends and was known for her generous and caring spirit. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, often donating handmade blankets and baby sets to charities. She also volunteered at Peachtree City United Methodist Church, the food bank at Fayette Samaritans, and delivering meals for Meals on Wheels with Bob. She enjoyed playing bunco and baking for family gatherings, where she was well known for her symphony brownies, almond bark, and baklava.
While her children were growing up, Janis was often considered the neighborhood mom, happily taking her children and their friends on outings to Proud Lake, Kent Lake at Kensington Metropark, Teeple Lake, and many road trips to Cedar Point. Later in life, Janis and Bob enjoyed traveling together through their timeshares, taking two Alaskan cruises and a Caribbean cruise, and spending many Saturday nights at the Hollonville Opry. Janis loved butterflies and often took visiting family and friends to the butterfly center at Callaway Gardens.
Even through her struggles with advanced dementia in recent years, Janis continued to show those around her the importance of love, patience, compassion, and strength. Her family was honored to care for her and provide comfort during difficult moments. She will be remembered for the love she gave so freely and for the lasting example she set for those who knew her.
Janis leaves behind a large and loving family. She is survived by her husband, Bob Wilson; her children, Karen (David) Gomez, Sherin (Jerry) Grossi, Dianna (Bill) Herrington, and Mike (Cory) Wilson; and her grandchildren Crystal Reedy, Angela Wilson, Jodi Mann, Gary (Alana) Crum, Bill Herrington, Jr. (Spring Berman), Michelle Wilson (partner Jason Keith), Richard Herrington, and Andy Wilson. She is also survived by Lisa Waterbury-Wilson, wife of her late grandson, Keith Wilson.
Also surviving are her great-grandchildren, Mark Drozal, Dominic and Daymien Reedy, Kayleigh and Madison MacDowell, Sadina (Nick) Russell, Tezaray and Ta’zjon Mann, Cheyenne and Savannah Wilson (Savannah’s partner, Mikey Tuggle), and Gwendolin Taylor (fiancé, Caleb Kindig), Kora, Adalyn and Genevieve Crum, and Kaia Wilson; along with her great-great-grandchildren Alec, Blake, and Serena Russell, and Riley Patton.
She was preceded in death by her sons, Wilbert Wilson and Steven Wilson; and her grandson, Keith Wilson.
Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life for Janis on May 9, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the home of Mike and Cory Wilson. Please contact the family for location details.
Janis will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, and her memory will live on in the hearts of her family.
