Nene, the daughter of Granville and Willa Gibson grew up in Huntington, WV. She was preceded in death by her husband and best friend, Lon Harbour; her sisters, Bonnie June Flaugher and Jacqueline Muir, with whom she sang in her youth; and her nephew, Terry Flaugher.
She is survived by her five children, Cheryl Miller, Karen (Johnny) Smith, Dan (Yvonne) Harbour, Laura (John) Parker, and Ellen (Del) Harbour; four grandchildren, Brian (Amy) Miller, Jennie Workman, Lindsey (Matt) Schaer, and Casey (Amanda) Smith; seven great grandchildren, Harper (Hannah), Jackson, Jane, Christian, Noah, Braxton, and Barrett; two nieces, Sandy Webb and Debbie Jenkins; along with many great-nieces and nephews.
Nene and Lon were a love story of over 60 years that began when Nene was still in high school. They married on July 19, 1947, when she was only 18 - not long after Lon was discharged from the Navy following WWII. They moved their young family to Atlanta in 1957. Nene and Lon enjoyed bowling into their 40s and shared a love of golf that continued well into their 70s.
Nene’s incredible love for animals, birds, and nature was passed down to all her children and grandchildren.
Nene had a love for the Lord that she expressed beautifully through song as an alto in the church choir, first with East Point Alliance Church - where she also sang in a trio - and then for many years at Southwest Christian Church. She was a good and faithful servant to our Lord in many ways, including years as a volunteer at Southwest Christian Care Hospice.
In her last year, Nene was a resident at Watercrest of Newnan memory care facility, where she was lovingly cared for by a wonderful staff of angels on earth. Nene’s family is so grateful for the care she received and the support shown to the family, especially in her final days.
In her memory, the family requests donations to Southwest Christian Care Hospice.
