2 Timothy 4:7-8 “I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith. Henceforth, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness which the Lord the righteous judge, will award to me on that day.”
Joellen Rae Horne Byrd (87) went home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on June 10th, 2021 in Tyrone, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents, A.T. and Lillian Horne; her brother, Gerald Horne; her son, Isaac Durham Byrd III; and her husband, Isaac Durham Byrd, Jr.
A prayer warrior who told everyone she met about her living savior, Joellen was born in Fort Worth, Texas, on September 7th, 1933. She accomplished more and touched more lives in her nearly nine decades than some could do in two full lifetimes. No one was ever a stranger to her and those who had the privilege of meeting and knowing her would say they loved her.
Ephesians 1:16 - “I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him” - Throughout the struggles, pain, and difficulty of her later years, she always saw every hospital visit or rehab center stay as an opportunity to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with many. To doctors, nurses, and staff who came to care for her physically, she loved to show care for them spiritually.
Joellen married Isaac Durham Byrd, Jr. in July, 1951 in Fort Worth Texas. Throughout Ike’s career they moved many times, living in Texas, Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia, Illinois, and New Jersey. Joellen touched many lives wherever she lived and worked sharing God’s light and love. She worked as one of (if not the first) female magistrates in the history of Monroe County, Alabama. She retired after working for some years with Yokogawa Corporation in Newnan, Georgia.
Proverbs 31:28a - “Her children rise up and call her blessed.” She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and HB Brewer; daughter-in-law, Kalla Knight Byrd; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Jo and Peter Capone; and son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Martha Lee Byrd; grandchildren, Joy (Jim) DeLaere, Ana Alikalfic, Anna (Brian) Paprocki, Joshua (Corrie) Brewer, Christopher Byrd, Matthew (Charity) Byrd, Joel (Jenn) Byrd, Jonathan Byrd, Andrew (Amanda) Byrd, Jacob Byrd and Vincent Capone; and her great-grandchildren are Ian, Gwynne, Aiden, Jalisha, Lillian, Lincoln, Julianna, Faith, Joshua, Kathryn, Zoe, Ella, Kyrell, Genevieve, Leo, Elijah, Leela, Jairus, Hoyt, Pearl, Ezra, Rykard and Cordelia.
Memorial Services are scheduled for Saturday, July 10, 11:30 am at Southside Church, Peachtree City, GA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Moody Radio ministry at https://www.moodyradio.org in her memory.
