Born on February 17, 1934, Lucy lived a long life that touched generations of family and friends. She will be remembered not simply for the number of years she lived, but for the life she created within those years, the people she loved, the memories she made, and the lasting place she holds in the hearts of those who knew her.
Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas and Ruth Murrow; her husband, John Rowland Jr.; her daughter, Paula Rowland Morrison; her son, Phillip Rowland; and her brothers, John, George, and Loren Murrow.
She is survived by her brother, Keith Murrow; her sons, Randy and David Rowland; and her daughter, Gayle Rowland Glenn; as well as 13 grandchildren; over 16 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Lucy’s life spanned more than nine decades of extraordinary change, but throughout those years, the things that mattered most remained constant: friends, family, and fun. And yes, books. Lots and lots of books.
Those who knew Lucy will remember her fantastic laugh, strong personality, Saturday morning phone calls, journals, birthday cards, her love of food and chocolate as well as the particular ways she showed that she cared. Together, those memories form the legacy of a woman whose presence can never be replaced.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home & Crematory, 135 Senoia Road, Peachtree City, Georgia.
A Celebration of Life honoring Lucy will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home & Crematory.
As those who loved Lucy come together, they will celebrate 92 years of life, remember the moments they were fortunate enough to share with her, and honor the woman who meant so much to so many.
Lucy will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
