Mable Eunice Chalker Betsill was the first child born to Dewey & Ruth Chalker in Ozark, AL on February 19, 1924. Mable relocated to Atlanta, GA to begin her professional career as a secretary for the US Army following WWII. Through her work Mable met the love of her life, William “Bill” Betsill. Bill & Mable married on November 21, 1946 in College Park, GA and were married for 53 glorious years. They operated the 2nd generation Betsill Amoco Service Station there while raising family.

Mable was a servant at heart and was greatly involved in her church, American Legion, and throughout her community. Mable worked the election polls for more than 50 years up through the presidential elections of 2016.

Mable’s favorite hobby was sewing; making clothes, beautiful quilts and all kinds of projects for those she loved and it brought her great joy making scores of baby quilts for so many in her life.

The greatest pride and joy for Mable was always her family. She provided loving care for each of her children; and then the precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren that followed. Mable attended as many recitals, ball games, graduations, and life events as possible; and enjoyed every minute of it. Mable is preceded in death by her husband, Bill; infant daughter, Connie Diana Betsill; her parents, Dewey & Ruth Chalker; sister Annie Mae Waters; and brother, Clarence Chalker.

Mable is survived by a large and loving family. Her children, Sylvia & J.W. Pace of Fayetteville, GA, Elaine & Ron Chambers of New Smyrna Beach FL; Danny & Cindy Betsill of Fayetteville, GA; siblings, Edsel Chalker and A.D. Chalker of Alabama, and Patsy Neisheim of Minnesota; grandchildren, Billy & Joy Pace, Brian & Michelle Pace, David Pace, Ashley & Tony Garcia, Tyler & Amber Betsill and William Betsill; and great-grandchildren, Amanda, Joby, Lexie, Christian, Cason, Carolina, Rachel, Matthew, Amber, Alexander, and Audrey Mae.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 1st Christian Church of Tyrone, 294 Jenkins Road, Tyrone, GA 30290 . A visitation and fellowship will immediately follow.

Memorial donations may be made to S.W. Christian Hospice of Union City, GA.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to all of the wonderful friends and extended family at Christian City; Tyrone Christian Church; and S.W. Christian Hospice for the love, care, support and most of all the prayers. We know that Mable was ushered from this world into the arms of her savior, Jesus Christ with much love.

My family and I were neighbors of Miss Mabel. She was always so friendly and we enjoyed her visits to sit with us by the pool or kitchen table. I feel like I’ve lost a grandmother, but I am sure she is right where she wants to be with her friends and family in Heaven.

Where to start. There are so many memories as I sit and reflect on mothers life and what she has meant to her family and so many friends. I owe my introduction to Christ through mother. She would always make sure we went to church as kids. I am so proud to be her son. She taught me so many life lessons and protected me on many many occasions. She taught me it was more important to treat people with respect and you would gain their respect. Mother never met a stranger. I can remember so many times when different people would come to the house to do work and she would offer them a piece of her "world famous pound cake or chocolate sheet cake."
Mother sacrificed so much for her children, she would work at the station while daddy took me to baseball games and to Florida and many places. It was seldom that we ever got to travel or vacation as a family. Her sacrifices were many and she never complained. Mother would always take care of all the kids in the family when we had to work or just wanted to do something different. Ashley & Tyler learned many life lessons from "Maw" and Granddaddy.

She was a Godly woman that showed the love of Christ to all she met. Recently at Christian City, I had a little old lady come up to me and say, we loved your mother so much, she taught us all to stand up for ourselves around here. That was who Maw was, she would love you but she would also set you straight. Heaven got so much sweeter when she left her earthly home to join our precious daddy. I am sure he was waiting and saying "hurry up Mable".
Thank you mom for your unconditional love and all you did for me and my family. My heart breaks to not see you anymore but rejoices that you are in heaven with a totally healed body and dancing with daddy in the streets of gold.
We will see you again.
All my love forever and always.
Your baby boy, Danny

What a pleasure to have Mable Betsill as our neighbor. I and my family enjoyed her personality and benefited from her company, her generosity, and her love for more than 20 years. I was fortunate to be included in family gatherings, and have seen her grandchildren grow up. I consider Mable my sister in every facet of our lives. I love and miss her dearly! She is temporarily on hold from her normal doings, but, I can tell you, there will be no grass growing under her feet in Heaven! Good-bye dear one! Rest in peace until the other angels call for dumplings and chocolate cake!

What a great mother. My mom was the most wonderful, kind, giving, caring Christian person you could have ever know.. Even in her last days she was thanking the nurses and doctors for all they were doing. I can't even begin to express how very much I love her and thank our Lord Jesus Christ for blessing me with having her as my mother. I will miss talking to her at 7:05 in the mornings on my way to work. Mother I know I can still talk to you anytime just in a different way. I love you with all my heart. I miss you.
