During the ignorance of my youth at Headland High,I like many,thought I knew all I needed to know and considered Mrs Chapman a hard and sometimes unfair teacher but having experienced life as an adult,a father and now a grandfather,I've learned that life is sometimes hard and not always fair and that teachers like her were only doing the job God intended,helping to mould young people like me into responsible,hard working adults.I never thought to say it then but I do now .Thank you Mrs Chapman,
thank you very much.

Mrs. Chapman was a remarkable teacher, and she positively affected the lives of so many of us at Headland High School. I'm very thankful to have been one of her students.

Mrs. Chapman was the living example of why teaching is our noblest profession. There is no better way to create informed minds and literally change lives. Thank you, Mrs. Chapman for helping make Headland High School the remarkable place it was. You are missed.

Mrs. Chapman was truly a gifted teacher and lovey lady. She made the impossible possible for me.

Mrs. Chapman was a wonderful lady, teacher and friend. She had such patience with me in math, I never liked it, and she tried her hardest to get me to, but she did get me thru the classes that she taught. I have nothing but respect and love for her. I loved seeing her at our reunions, always a smile and kind words. Gil, she was so proud of you and your family, she could talk about all of you for hours. I feel that all of us as a Headland High family are better for having her in our lives. Rest in Peace Mrs. Chapman, you are well loved by many and will be missed.

Sorry to hear about Mrs. Chapman's passing. She was my favorite teacher at Headland High. She taught me to love algebra. Thanks to her and Miss Goode, I went to Ga. Tech and graduated with degree in chemical engineering, I taught school in Fulton County for 23 years. Retired from Creekside High School as head of the math department. Our Headland High Class of 1963 had our 50th reunion the passed June. I know of so many of my classmates agree with me when I say that she played such a big part in our lives.

Marelle was a dear friend and we shall miss her greatly.  She lived her faith by visiting those who couldn't get out and by staying in contact with friends and family.  Her son, Gil; daughter-in-law, Susan; and granddaughter, Catherine, were the light of her life and loved them so.  Her students knew she cared about them and she would do whatever she could to help them learn math as long as the put forth some effort.
The world will miss her greatly, but God has another angel in heaven.

Mrs. Chapman was such a special friend to our sister, Doris Beckham Eidson at Heritage Assisted Living in Peachtree City.  She also was Doris' very favorite teacher at Russell High School.  She made Doris's time at Heritage so much happier.  We loved visiting with her when we would visit Doris.  She had such a great sense of humor.  We are sorry that we were unable to attend the visitation and service, but you are in our thoughts and prayers. Mrs.Chapman will truly be missed by many.

Oh how I loved Mrs. Chapman. She helped me by tutoring me in geometry. I was probably her worst nightmare with its concepts, but she always smiled, prodded me on with love and kindness. A wonderful lady, indeed. She will be missed by many.  RIP, Mrs. Chapman.

Mrs. Chapman never gave up on me! I'll always be grateful that she encouraged me not to give up either. It was fun when she would tell us a few quick stories from time to time. My deepest condolences to Gil, and to her other relatives and friends.

My eyes are filled with tears; Mrs. Chapman was my absolute best teacher at Russell High.  She tutored me to help me with geometry concepts.  She was a demanding teacher who brought out any student's  best.  When I saw her at one of our Russell reunions, at least 40 years after our graduation, she graciously thanked me once again for a small Christmas  appreciation gift I gave her and she told me she still had that gift..  What a remarkable woman she was; she gave all of her students the best gift--her guidance.

I did love Mrs. Chapman as did all of my sisters and my brother.  She called us her "Folsom students"......  We all  learned a lot from her and we treasured her as our teacher.She could teach and get you to understand math like no other!!I saw her a lot through the years.  My sympathy to all of her family.....

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.

The years shared with Marelle at Headland High School were very special and an important part of my life. She sincerely cared for her students as well as for members of the faculty and administration.My prayers are with you, Gil. Sincerely.

Marelle was one of the reasons I wanted to learn more about my Whitaker heritage...she was ALWAYS a faithful attendant to our family reunion in Ellijay, Georgia. She was always interested in her heritage and all of her relatives. In fact, the VERY reason we had the reunion this year was because we knew she would be so disappointed if we did not. I am so thankful that she was able to attend and got to visit with my Dad, Ben Whitaker, now 86 and her sister Mary. I will always have sweet memories of Marelle. Peace and prayers to the family for a life well-lived and to be long remembered.

Mrs. Chapman was one of the best teachers I ever had.  She taught me algebra at Headland High School in 1965.  There is a rather bizarre story that I shared with my classmates about wearing my baseball uniform to class because she wouldn't let me out early for a very important game.

She was one of a kind and I will always remember her.

Mrs. Chapman was my Algebra and Calculus teacher at Headland HS in East Point in 1972-1973. She took a personal interest in her students. For slower students like me she had a remedial class to help bring us up to speed. She didn't have to do that...she wanted to. She attended a lot of reunions. It was always good to see her and reminisce. Her son Gil and I were fraternity brothers at Auburn University. She became an ardent Auburn fan. I remember Gil saying that she could not watch the games sometimes because she got so wrapped up and nervous over them. My thoughts and prayers are with you Gil in your time of loss. I wish I was close enough to attend the funeral.
