Michael Lee Wharton, known to most as Mike, was born in Manchester, Connecticut on February 11, 1952 to his parents, Lavern and Richard Wharton, along with an older brother, Steve. He grew up in south Florida where he wore his hair long and spent his days and nights drumming in his band. Michael met then married the love of his life, Brenda Jenkins, on April 20, 1974. Then started their family having Hillary (Seth), Lee (Lawra) and Paige (Kirk).
In 1985, Mike and Brenda moved the family to Brooks, GA. With 3 young children they had quite the journey ahead. Property was purchased in Brooks and the family lived in a humble house while Dad built our beautiful home. This house has come to be a part of so many memories for so many people. Michael was incredibly smart and very hard working. A Superintendent for Benning Construction for over 30 years, he loved his work. It is very cool to drive around the southeast and see buildings and shopping centers that he has built.
Mike has five grandsons and one sweet granddaughter. First was Miles, then Colin, Leeland and Claude, Lawson, and finally Lainey. He loved his grandkids and being their PopPop. Teaching them to play chess and pool with rides on the tractor and adventures on the buggies, he was always up to something.
The Wharton Farm was his most favorite place to be. Working on the tractor, tinkering with RC planes, entertaining, and listening to his favorite albums in his basement bar are some of his favorite pastimes. The music always being “too loud” for the rest of us. This man left a lasting impression on every single person who met him. Afterall, he was the “coolest person he knew.” Funny and quick witted. Handsome and Strong. Known for his signature “cowboy” look. He knew how to experience life and could tell the very best stories. He had the most awesome friends and built a wonderful life for his family. He loved his home, his children, and grandchildren, but most of all he loved his “beautimus” bride, Brenda. He gave her the life she had always wanted. The love story of Mike and Brenda is one for the ages.
We will be celebrating Mike the only way he would let us. With a party on the farm at 129 Rowland Road, Brooks, GA 30205. Open house style starting at 2:00 on March 9, 2024 will go into the evening.
We would love for you to post an album that you would like to hear and/or a favorite memory you have of our hero. The Man, The Myth, The Legend. Rest Peacefully, Daddy, you did good.
