Mickey was born in Abbeville, SC on October 9, 1945, to Robert Woodhurst and Claire McCarthy. Her parents divorced and she lived in Yonkers, NY with her mother where she had a highly successful career as a child and teenage model, appearing in print, runway, and television.
In 1961 she moved to Rock Hill, SC to live with her father and his family. She often expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome she was given by the people of Rock Hill and maintained close friendships with many of them.
During her childhood, she spent many summers and holidays visiting with relatives in Atlanta and upon graduation, decided to make Atlanta her home. She began her career with the Georgia Department of Transportation. At the time of her retirement, she held the dual title of Executive Assistant to the Commissioner of Transportation and Secretary of the State Transportation Board. She was the first woman to hold these positions.
After retirement, she lived on St. Simons Island, GA and Panama City Beach, FL for a time but, again she returned to the Atlanta area in 2000 where she fulfilled a life-long dream of owning her own farm- complete with horses, alpacas, dogs, cats, a pig, and any form of wildlife that wandered into her life. A serious riding accident ended this part of her life.
She was a strong believer in volunteerism, community, and church involvement. Never having children of her own, she thoroughly enjoyed teaching Pre-K at St. James the Apostle School in McDonough, GA. She volunteered in therapeutic equine programs for challenged adults and children; belonged to a number of Greyhound rescue groups over the years; showed Borzoi in AKC shows; and was active in several Chambers of Commerce. She was an avid tennis player, but her greatest pleasure was riding and training her horses.
Mickey is survived by her stepson, Rick Mullinax (Lori; River); half-brother, Andy Woodhurst (Melinda; Andrew); half-sister, Diane Woodhurst; and several cousins, especially Brian Moran and Martha Robinson.
Mickey’s wishes were to be cremated, and her ashes inurned at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mt. Vernon Road, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. A memorial service at the cemetery at 10:00am, on Saturday, July 19, 2025.
