Michelle Raymond, the daughter of Sammie Lee and Adell Raymond, was born in Chicago, IL on August 6, 1966. For over 55 years, this beautiful and protective soul has been a shining light in our family and has brought joy to all who’ve encountered her. Described as a “free spirit”, Michelle was a leader and she was forward-thinking. This was evident as early as her grade school years at Doolittle Elementary and throughout her matriculation at King High School. She started her collegiate career at Western Illinois University and then completed her studies at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago. There, she served as the office manager and IT specialist for the institution’s Southside campus. She trained faculty and staff on the use of University information systems and technology; further demonstrating her leadership ability. This opportunity ended prematurely due to her medical diagnosis, but she didn’t give up the fight.
Following her doctor's advice to move to a warmer climate to attenuate the symptoms of lupus, Michelle and her family eventually relocated to Georgia. Even while managing her illness she continued to be the nucleus that held her family together. For those who knew her, she was a lover of truth, literature, family and music. She was a generous soul that gave to all. On October 1, 2021, Michelle left to be with the Lord. Though her healing came on the other side, we will relish in her valiant fight on this side.
She was preceded in death by her older sister Charlotte, who died in infancy. She leaves to mourn and celebrate her memory: her loving and devoted parents, Sammie and Adell Raymond of Newnan, Georgia; four brothers; Sammie Jr, Bernard and Bradley of Newnan , GA and Timothy of Chicago, IL; aunts; Maryella Cooley(Willie) of Charlotte, NC, Irma Hardy, Irene Jackson and Dorothy Raymond all of Chicago, IL, and Helen McCain of St. Louis, MO; uncles James Jackson( Debra) of Jackson, MS, John Jackson(Henrietta) of Port Gibson, MS, and James “Red” Farr of Chicago, IL; beloved friends Sarah Montgomery of Pittsburgh, PA and Tarsha Cecil of Seattle, WA as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She also leaves to cherish her memory her beloved dogs, Queenie and Lucy.
A Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Michelle will be held in the chapel on Monday, October 11, 2021 at 3:00 PM at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home & Crematory, 135 Senoia Rd, Peachtree City, Georgia 30269. Visitation will be held from 2:00pm-3:00pm.
