Mildred Eubanks Massengale, of Fayetteville, GA went to be with the Lord at the age of 97, on January 22, 2022. Daughter of the late Joseph Robert Eubanks and Eunice Smith Eubanks, she was born on November 10, 1924.
Mildred married John Patrick Massengale Jr., of Fayetteville, GA on December 9, 1951. They had three children and enjoyed being active in the community and First Baptist Church of East Point, GA.
Mildred received her degrees at West Georgia and University of Georgia, obtaining a Master’s in Reading. She was a “Rosie the Riveter” at the Bell Aircraft Plant in Marietta during World War II, 4-H Home Demonstration Agent, teacher and professor in Clayton County’s school and university system, assisted at Georgia State University, helped establish Georgia’s Association of Educators (GAE), and held the status of Lifetime Flower Show Judge.
Mildred traveled extensively well into her eighties, read prolifically, and possessed a vast knowledge of plant life. She is quoted as saying, "Dream greater than yourself or you'll never be doing anything bigger than you are now!" She lived her life and succeeded, encouraging students and those around her to do likewise.
Mildred is preceded in death by her beloved husband of over sixty years, John Patrick Massengale Jr.,; son, John Patrick Massengale III; sister, Laura Eubanks Brown; and brothers, Robert Joseph Eubanks and Gary Franklin Eubanks.
Mildred is survived by her daughters, Beth Massengale Holton of Fayetteville, GA and Anne Massengale of Thomaston, GA; three grandchildren, Jason Oxendine of Thomaston, GA, Dr. Chris Oxendine (Leigh) of Iva, SC, and Adrienne Holton of Fayetteville, GA; three great-grandchildren, Jason Rio Oxendine of Waupun, WI, Noah and Sophie Oxendine of Iva, SC; brother, T. Marshall Eubanks (Stephanie) of Clifton, VA; as well as two sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A private funeral service will be held for the immediate family only.
