Nelson Wayne Massingale

After graduating from Russell High School in 1961, he proudly served his country with 3 years active duty with the Army Security Agency followed by 32 years with the active Army Reserve. He spent most of the time with the 2nd Maneuver Training Command and he earned the following Military Awards: Air Medal; Army Commendation Medal; Army Achievement Medal; Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Medal; Viet Nam Service Medal; Armed Forces USAR Medal; and Honorable Services Medal.

After serving a tour with the Central Intelligence Agency in Arlington, VA, Mr. Massingale returned to East Point and worked 40+ years in the communications industry. He enjoyed roller skating, always looking for a good trade, old cars, antique guns, and model cars (both new and old).

Mr. Massingale is preceded in death by his parents, Bertha and Houston Massingale; and his brothers, Marvin Lee Massingale, Kenneth Ray Massingale, Harvey Millard Massingale, and Billy Houston Massingale.

He is survived by his wife of 55+ years, Mary Ann (Hobgood) Massingale; daughters, Lisa (Bill) Evans and Lanie (Ray) Slonaker; son, Kevin Massingale; several grandchildren; and his many friends.

The family will receive friends from 11:00am-1:00pm on Monday, February 6 at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home, 135 Senoia Road, Peachtree City with a Funeral Service in the chapel at 1:00 p.m. Dr. Kevin Williams and Rev. Alvin Hobgood will be officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park with Full Military Honors.
