I want to yell - "You promised me Pecans!" but know the time ran out. Every year you would pick and shell huge bags of Pecans for me and present them as your annual gift. Today, I bought a large bag and the tears flowed. Not that I missed the fact that you would no longer be bringing me this gift but the fact that I would miss the man who made the extra effort to do something special for me. You came into our lives and stayed there although circumstances changed. Rest in peace Van. You will be missed.

Always smiling, never complaining . . . I first met Van in 1978. The friendship was instant. Up until my move to Oklahoma in 1985 we were always doing something together - hunting, fishing or swapping lies over a beer. Never an unkind word about anybody. A loving father, husband, and grandfather. You will be missed by everyone. Rest easy, dear friend.
