Douglas accepted Jesus Christ early in his life at Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Stateline, MS. He attended high school in Fruitdale, AL. Upon graduating he attended Jones Junior College, Ellisville, MS and Livingston University, Livingston, AL.
In 1981, Douglas married, the love of his life, Thelma Joann Hill. Douglas and Thelma established their home in Peachtree City, GA. After 11 years of marriage Thelma and Douglas welcomed into the world their miracle son, Robert Darrius.
Douglas had a very strong work ethic. He was recognized by his team for being a dedicated professional who took great pride in a job well done. His reliability and hard work set a high standard for his team. He worked for the State of Georgia for 20 years and Federal Express for 22 years.
Douglas was an avid sports fan. He loved football, basketball and wrestling. His favorite football team was Alabama Crimson Tide (Roll Tide). He rarely missed a game. Douglas and his beloved son, Darrius, scheduled vacation time every year to watch March Madness basketball together. They would always plan to eat “Chicken Wangs” (yes, I said Wangs and not Wings), fries and have an ice-cold drink. One of Douglas's greatest joys was spending time watching sports with his son. The father and son time they shared meant everything to them.
Douglas was a man of few words with a heart of gold who loved and cherished his family. He was always willing to help anyone in need. He never sought the spotlight; he was the reliable foundation for his family. His word was his bond.
Douglas was preceded in death by his loving and devoted parents, Robert David and Alma Clyde Mimbes.
Douglas leaves to cherish his memory; his loving wife and soulmate, Thelma Joann; and his son/best friend, Robert Darrius (aka as Boo-Kee to him). He also leaves to cherish his memory three sisters-in-love: Pamela Angel (Leon) of Fayetteville, GA, Sheila Weems Williams and Alma Lynette Hill, both of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; one brother-in-love: Jarett Shawn Hill of Sacramento, CA; along with numerous loving nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of friends and extended family.
Douglas wishes were to be cremated. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held for him at 11:00 AM, March 28, 2026, at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home & Crematory, 135 Senoia Road, Peachtree City, GA 30269.
