Sheila leaves to cherish her memory, 5 children: Jeffrey Michael Slocum, Kathleen Elizabeth Slocum, Sandra Pauline (Rich) Crane, Georgia Ann (Tim) Cotler, George Thornton Slocum III; sister-in-law, Jo Sherwood; 12 grandchildren; 11 great- grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband George Thornton Slocum Jr; brothers: Robert Edward Shuey Sherwood and Bronson Eugene Sherwood.
She was born July 14, 1935 in Webster City, IA to Hollynd Sylvester and Ivah Pauline Shuey Sherwood. Sheila was a graduate of Beloit Memorial High School in Beloit, WI; attended Bob Jones University (1953-1955) in Greenville, SC; attended Swedish American Hospital of School of Nursing (1955-1957) in Rockford, IL; served as Women’s Ministry Missionary (1989-2020) with Operation Mobilization in Tyrone, GA; served as public speaker (1980-2017) with Christian Women’s Clubs; actively attended and served at New Hope Baptist Church in Fayetteville, GA.
She leaves an indelible legacy, with all who knew her, as a loving and self-less mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great great-grandmother and friend. Her life of ministry impacted countless lives as she served in 49 countries via 3 ships with Operation Mobilization: Logos II, Doulos and Logos Hope. She was an active participant of Royal Treasure, a non-profit Christian ministry of equipping and educating women on biblical stewardship; she was a staunch advocate for women and children all over the world caught in Slavery and Human Trafficking as a spokesperson and prayer-warrior for the Freedom Challenge.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a Celebration Service on Thursday, January 28, 2021 from 9-11am (9-10am: Visitation; 10-11am Service) at New Hope Baptist Church (North Campus), 551 New Hope Road, Fayetteville, GA 30214.
Graveside service to be held at Eastlawn Cemetery, 2200 Milwaukee Road, Beloit, WI, 53511 on April 10, 2021. Further details forthcoming.
