Mrs. Vernell B. Lanier passed away peacefully in the early morning of February 28, 2020, following a short time in loving hospice care. Born in Wilcox County, GA on March 3, 1928, she was the youngest of five children born to Oliver Baldwin and Annie Rowe Baldwin. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband, James K. Lanier Sr., and son, Marvin Carl Lanier. Mrs. Lanier enjoyed gardening and other outdoor activities including hunting and fishing. She and her husband traveled the country working with Campers On Missions. Active at Sandy Creek Baptist Church, she was deeply loved by family and friends.
Survived by son, James K. Lanier, Jr. of Byron; daughters, Mary Ann (Danny) Clay of Fayetteville; Nancy Norris of Fayetteville; and Karen Martin of Henderson, NV; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great- great grandchildren. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon on Monday, March 2 in the chapel of Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home & Crematory with Pastor Philip Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until services. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Sherwood Memorial Park
