Vernon Miechell Oatis, age 50, of Newnan, GA passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023. He was born on March 25, 1973, to his devoted parents, the late Daily Oatis and Carolyn (Brumfield) Oatis in Philadelphia, PA.
Vernon grew up in Tuscaloosa, AL which explains his Love and Loyalty for “Roll Tide” football. Following high school Vernon went on to attend college at Southern Mississippi, enlisted into the Army Reserves, and ultimately went on to enlist in the United States Army from which he retired. Over his 25-year career in the military, Vernon was stationed at many duty stations but none of those are as important as his time at Fort Benning, GA where he met, fell in love, married, and built an amazing family and life with HIS person who was undoubtedly created from his rib, Rochelle.
Vernon, a dutiful son, magnificent husband, loving father, protecting papa, amazing brother, nurturing uncle, caring nephew, chill cousin, loyal friend, fearless leader, and no-limit soldier leaves to continue his legacy Rochelle, Nicholas, Kayla, Mar’Reese, Bentley, Xariyah, Lamiyah, Ladale (Shenia), Anthony, Jerome, Carlis, and a host of Aunties, Uncles, Brothers, Sisters, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, Friends, and Soldiers.
Services will be held on November 11, 2023 with full military honors. A visitation will be held from 10:00am-12:00pm followed by a Chapel Funeral Service at 1:00pm at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home & Crematory in Peachtree City, GA. He will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan, GA following the service.
