Violet Brown Fisher, 98, of Newnan, GA passed away Friday August 9, 2019. She was born May 11, 1921 in Alpharetta, GA. She was the eldest child of Annie Mae Purcell Brown and Robert Virgil Brown. Violet was the matriarch of five generations, a treasured mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was loved by all who knew her.

Violet attended Brown High School in Atlanta, GA. In 1939, she attended the premiere of "Gone with the Wind" at the Loew’s Grand Theatre in Atlanta, which was a magical moment in her life. Violet was a switchboard operator at Southern Bell Telephone Company, in Atlanta. When the attack on Pearl Harbor occurred, she was on duty at the switchboard and did not leave the building for three straight days. Following the attack, she went to the recruiting office to volunteer her service in the war, however, she was turned down due to health reasons. So, she stayed at home and volunteered at the USO. She spoke of the wonderful dances and dinners for the soldiers there. She later was a lifetime auxiliary member of the American Legion. In 1946, Violet married Tommy Fisher, when he returned from Europe, after his service in World War II. They set up housekeeping in East Point, GA and raised their children there. Violet worked as the accounting department manager, at Southern Wood Preserving Company in East Point, until her retirement in the 1970s.

Violet and Tommy were active members at The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in East Point. They worked at the church store and served Meal on Wheels. Upon moving to Newnan in 1992, they joined St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

Violet is preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Douglas Fisher; and her sister, Bernice Brown McGinnis. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Fisher McMillan and son-in-law, Jon McMillan, of Newnan; her son, Robert Douglas Fisher of Newnan; her grandchildren, Lisa Mobley Putnam (Len), Jim L. Mobley (Holly), Craig McMillan (Georgie), Brian McMillan (Kami), Shawn McMillan (Lindsey), Brian Douglas Fisher (Ashley) and Sarah Beckom Stevens (Gregg); her great-grandchildren, Julianne Ramsey, Lawson Mobley, Lensey Putnam, Emily Miranda, Conner Fisher, Ryder Fisher, Abby Beckom, Nicholas McMillan and Samuel McMillan; her great-great-granddaughter, Lyla Dewberry; her nieces, Debbie Whitmire (Mike), Terri Lowry (Jim), and Sheila Goode (Tommy); her nephew, Glen Emory (Martha); and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

My sweet grandmother. She loved me all the time, every single second of my life. She was always there for me. She took me to Sunday school and church and taught me manners. She set the standard of what a Grandmother should be and I hope I can be even half the grandmother she was. I will miss her everyday until I see her again.

Vi was my mother’s only sister and best friend until the end. I was blessed with 2 brothers and 2 sisters and our Aunt Vi always made each of us believe we were her favorite. She lived a full life of 98 years and was our family’s matriarch. She can now Rest In Peace with her husband, parents and my mom, her little sister. Until we meet again, I will always love you.

I have always known Mrs. Fisher. So many great memories from childhood and on. Sweet, sweet lady, always smiling. One of the mothers the East Point family of kids could count on.
She will be missed by so many.

I met Mrs. Fisher when I met Sharon in school when we were about 8 years old. Mrs. Fisher was a beautiful and very sweet lady. My husband (Milt) and I are very saddened by her passing. I hadn't seen Mrs. Fisher in a long time, but Sharon always talked about her with me. I was always happy to listen to her wonderful memories of her precious Mother. RIP Mrs. Fisher..........you will be missed by so many! I know one thing for sure: Mrs. Fisher raised a sweet and beautiful daughter, and she is a very good friend of mine. Everyone always had a lot of fun at Mr. & Mrs. Fisher's home!
