Billy H. McMullen, 78, a resident of Jackson/Byram for more than forty-eight years, passed from this life Friday, December 27, 2018, at the G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery V.A. Medical Center in Jackson.

Visitation will be 5:00-8:00pm, Sunday, December 30, 2018, at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm, Monday, December 31, 2018, at the Olde Towne Community Church in Ridgeland. Interment will follow in Lakewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.

He was born November 28, 1940, in Indianola, Mississippi, a son of the late William Dewey McMullen and Lula Adell Wablington McMullen.

Mr. McMullen entered the U.S. Navy on August 16, 1959 and was honorably discharged on November 19, 1963, after four years of dedicated service. He was a Seaman at the Naval Station in San Diego, California, Port Hueneme, California, and Hawaii. While in the Navy he was a Golden Gloves Boxer and earned the Good Conduct Medal.

During his career he was employed with Edward Boiler Works for eight years, and Buford Plumbing for eighteen years. He owned and operated Battery Renew in Jackson for five years and was co-owner with his wife, Shirley, of Econo Mobile Billing for forty-two years.

A loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, his favorite times were spent with his family. He especially enjoyed traveling and the family trips and vacations they had together.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-seven years, Shirley Gentry McMullen; children, Doug McMullen and wife Patricia, Anita Chisolm and husband Gary, and Dana Goldman and husband Chris; grandchildren, Erica McNeilly, Jennifer Haney and husband Hiram, Scott Chisolm and wife Nicki, Haley Beckham, D.J. McMullen, Kristen Chisolm and fiancee Hunter, and Madison Goldman; great-grandchildren, Gage McNeilly, Jacob McNeilly, Jackson Haney, Gabriel McNeilly, Tinley Chisolm, Zane Haney, and Bella McNeilly; and many loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by siblings, Leola Boutwell, Edward McMullen, Joe Ann Tanksley, Maurice McMullen, Lester McMullen, Janet Renfroe, and Harvey McMullen.

Sorry for your loss,
I always loved going waterskiing at Lake Ridgelea with tha family. The dock was always open . He always loved seeing everyone have fun. It was a rebuilding time in my life and your ( his) family were a blessing.
