

Known as Charlie to friends and Chuck or Uncle Chuck to family, he was born on October 16, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan. After graduation from Notre Dame High School in Harper Woods, MI he served for 4 years in the United States Army during which he was awarded Expert Rifle (M-14) and Mechanic Badge. After an honorable discharge, he worked for Sears in Columbus,GA before beginning a long career with General Motors in MI. Upon retirement in 2002, he and Margaret moved to Brandon, MS.
An accomplished bowler, he competed in the 23rd annual Georgia State Tournament in 1972. For most of his adult life, however, he was an avid and enthusiastic golfer. His love of golf took him to many wonderful places all across the country and even to Scotland. He enjoyed working in the Pro Shop at Bay Pointe Country Club in Brandon until the time of his passing. He loved Mississippi State sports, going to car shows and driving his classic cars, and greatly enjoyed traveling and socializing. A cradle Catholic, he was a communicant of St. Paul Catholic Church in Flowood, MS.
Mr. Carnaghie is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Till Carnaghie in 2014 and his parents, Peter and Lucille (Schoenherr) Carnaghie.
Left to cherish his memory are his sister, Lois Navickas (Ron) of Shelby Township, MI; niece, Teresa Stanfield (Howie) of Germantown, TN & family; girlfriend, “Lovely Lady” Linda Rainey of Brandon, MS; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces & nephews, great-great nieces & nephews; and many, many wonderful friends.
The family held a private graveside service in Columbus, Ga on November 21, 2025. A memorial Mass for Mr. Carnaghie will be held on Friday, December 5, 2025 at 10:00 AM at St. Paul Catholic Church in Flowood, MS with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorial tribute be made to St. Paul Catholic Church or The Mustard Seed (mustardseedms.org).
