Clyde J. Chapman, 80, passed away Friday, November 15, 2013 at the MS State Veterans Home in Jackson. Visitation will be Sunday, November 17, 2013 from 6 -8pm at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl and Monday, November 18, 2013 from 9 – 11am. Funeral services will be held at 11am Monday in the funeral home chapel with interment at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Dr. Ron Bird will be officiating the service. Active pallbearers will be Clint Chapman, Joseph Martin, Ernie Shows, III., Erik Shows, Tony Martin and Ernie Shows, Jr. Honorary pallbearers include Henry Wilshire, Joe Walker, Gary Staten and Frank Whittington.
Mr. Chapman was born November 8, 1933 in Cato, MS to Barney Lee and Thelma Chapman. He graduated from Puckett High School and attended Draughn’s Business College in Jackson.
He served in the US Army receiving the Good Conduct Medal and Honorable Discharge.
After his service in the Army he began his career at the First National Bank of Jackson where he continued his education, taking classes offered through the American Bankers Association; MS School of Banking at Ole Miss; and at the School of Banking at LSU.
He retired from Trustmark Bank, formerly First National Bank. He continued to work after retirement at his gift shop, the Mole Hole. Throughout his life his community was important to him. He served on various boards and was a member of several organizations such as the Southwest Sertoma Club; MS Regional Blood Center; Rotary Club; Willow Wood Development Center; Southwest YMCA; Southwest Banking Institute; and United Way.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Howard, Cleveland, James, Wiley and Carroll Chapman; and sisters, Ollie Mae Chapman, Agnes Chapman Butler, and Ruby Chapman Johnson
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Chapman; son, Todd Chapman and wife, Cathy; daughters, Sandra Martin and husband, Tony and Tammie Shows and husband Ernie; and seven grandchildren.
