Dixie Jean Reynolds Miller was born on January 27, 1931, in Elgin, Kansas, the daughter of Garrett Reynolds and Edna Hinkle Reynolds. She departed this earth on December 19, 2025 in Natchez, Mississippi.
Dixie married her high school sweetheart, Calvin Miller, in 1949. They were blessed with three children, Marla Jo, Jeanie, and Jimmy.
Her husband’s work with Amoco Oil company transferred the family to various places in Mississippi and Louisiana, moving to Natchez in 1968. Upon retirement, Dixie and Cal moved to Brandon, MS.
Dixie was always active in the United Methodist Churches where they lived, especially in Natchez at Lovely Lane United Methodist Church, where she was choir director, and at St. Mark’s UMC in Brandon. At St. Mark’s, she was the music librarian for the choir, sang in the choir and was in the handbell choir, needle pointed some of the cushions at the altar, coordinated food for the Wednesday night suppers with friends, who were all called the “Dixie Chicks”. Other volunteer jobs included driving the church van for Bible School, participating in Young at Heart group, and working in the church nursery. She loved babies, and also babysat in her home for working families. She was compassionate and caring, always there for her family and friends.
Dixie enjoyed knitting and resolved to make every family member and new baby a blanket, whether they wanted it or not. In later years, she took up golf and loved playing with Cal, often times beating him. They also traveled extensively after his retirement.
Dixie is pre-deceased by her husband, Calvin Miller; son, James Calvin Miller; son-in-law, Mike Mooney, and her three siblings. Family members remaining to cherish her memory are daughters Marla Miller Mooney of Centreville, Maryland, Jeanie Lanneau (Bazile Lanneau, Jr.) of Natchez, and grandchildren, Chris Mooney (Katy), Diane Schmidt (Jim), Emily Kostka (Billy), Bill Mooney (Mikelle), Sarah Lanneau (Generoso Garza), Bazile Lanneau III, Ph.D. (Megha Kansra), Justin Miller (Jeannie), Melissa Young (Richard) and daughter-in-law, Cissy Miller Fisher. She was also blessed with 15 great grandchildren.
