Donald K. "Don" Mahaffey, Jr., was born on June 9, 1971, and was embraced by the arms of our Savior along with family on October 4, 2025, (54 years old) at the G. V. "Sonny" Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson following a short battle with Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer.
A graduate of Pearl High School, Don proudly and voluntarily joined the United States Navy and was stationed in the Gulf on the John F. Kennedy where he served his country to the best of his ability in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm of the Gulf War. Don had a big heart, he had love for everyone in his circle and some outside of his circle. He didn't meet a stranger. He was energetic, entertaining, and some would even say, "a little bit of Don went a long way." He was loved, though, by his family and friends. Throughout his life you could say he was a jack of all trades but only a master of a few. But he did anything and everything to provide as he could. He enjoyed life, he was a husband, dad, pawpaw, and friend to many. His passion or maybe his obsession was his love for music. You could always count on him playing his music as loud as he wanted and didn't care who it might bother or offend. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, always needing to be outside keeping busy. He was never one to stay idle for too long. He could build anything from porch furniture to houses and always loved trying to garden, where he only managed to grow different types of peppers to make his own pepper sauce. He loved helping his family and friends whenever someone was in need. He would say, "just call me and I will be there." When Don wasn't helping others or doing something to stay busy, he loved just hanging out with our fur-babies, Bilbo, Bella Anne, Hazel, Leo, and Jaxon.
Don will leave a void in all the loves of those that loved him the most. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald K. Mahaffey, Sr. (2010); mother, Janice White Watts (2006); brother, Paul Monroe Mahaffey, Sr. (2010); daughter, Alexis Anastasia Mahaffey (2000); and both paternal and maternal grandparents.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 13 years, Rebecca "Becky" Mahaffey; daughters, Courtney Mahaffey, Lindsey Mahaffey (his twin in female form), Lacey Warren (Preston), Kayla Whitley (Tony), Kristian Shields (Kaleb), and Amber Quick (Hayden); grandchildren, Athena Mahaffey, Sora and Nikolai Stokes, Rebekkah Ellett, Sophia and Matthew Lawrence, Stefan and Dean Warren, Reed Strickland, and Bennett Quick; his in-laws, Harry and Linda Slade; and an abundance of nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and great-nephews of whom will never know how truly wonderful their great uncle Don was.
Celebration of Life Services will be held from 2:00pm until 4:00pm, Sunday, October 19, 2025, at Puckett Methodist Church.
