Visitation will be held from 10:00am until 11:00am, Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Funeral services will follow at 11:00am in the funeral home chapel. In accordance with her wishes, Dorothy Moore will be laid to rest privately beside her late husband, Lennis V. Moore, in Lakewood Memorial Park. No interment services will be held.
Dorothy was born on March 1, 1925, to the late Charles and Maude (McKnight) DeWitt. Dorothy was born in Hinds County in Jackson, MS.
Dorothy married the love of her life, Lennis V. Moore, in 1951. The couple lived happily in Jackson, MS, Magee, MS, and Brandon, MS. Dorothy and Lennis were not biological parents to any children; however, the couple’s deep love and care for the children of friends and children in the church and community was second to none. Therefore, names like “Aunt Dot” and “Granny” were common names for Dorothy Moore throughout her lifetime.
God’s work through the local church was a priority for Dorothy Moore. Dorothy and Lennis professed their faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior at Eastside Baptist Church in Magee, MS during their early years of marriage. The couple served their Lord faithfully at Eastside until their move to Brandon, MS in 1984. After moving to Brandon, the couple joined Providence Baptist Church in Pearl, MS. At Providence Baptist, Dorothy was a beloved Sunday School teacher to the senior adult ladies of the church. She also arranged luncheons and transportation for the senior citizen group at the church. Dorothy served others by transporting them to grocery stores, doctor appointments, and church functions.
Dorothy Moore’s servant heart was also seen through her career as a Licensed Practical Nurse. After graduating at the top of her class from the MS Baptist Hospital School of Practical Nursing in 1968, Dorothy worked at the “old” Baptist Hospital for 1 year; the Sanatorium T.B. facility until its closure in 1976; the Boswell Center; and the MS State Hospital at Whitfield until her retirement. Dorothy retired from her career as an LPN to care for her ailing husband until his death.
Dorothy Moore was known for many gifts and talents. She spent countless hours crocheting, quilting, and sewing for others. She was an avid gardener of both vegetables and flowers. Dorothy Moore was an accomplished cook, and her home was always open for family and friends to share a fresh, garden meal at her table. In addition, she was an avid reader throughout her life.
Dorothy Moore’s passion from the day she came to Christ as a young woman until the day she met Him face to face, was that those around her come to know Him too. “We are all,” she used to often say, “sinners by birth and by choice. We all need a Savior.”
